WILLIAMSTON- Merindorf Meats was named Reserve Grand Champion in the category Wild Game Specialty and Champion for their Emulsified Frankfurters at the American Cured Meats Championships on Saturday in South Carolina.

This year’s competition hosted by the American Association of Meat Processors wasn’t Merindorf’s first rodeo. Last year they won Grand Champion in the category Jerky – Whole Muscle and Reserve Grand Champion in the category Frankfurters/Wieners – Coarse Ground.

Numerous awards have been bestowed upon owner Linn Merindorf, therefore the products have earned the term “award winning meats”.

Awards have been received from the Michigan Meat Association and the American Association of Meat Processors. The year 2003 saw the Merindorf market as the recipient of the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Business Award and the store has repeatedly been voted as Ingham County’s People’s Choice Award winner for “Best Place to Buy Meat.”

Merindorf Meats and More began years ago as a lucrative deer processing sideline for the Merindorf family. In 1996, that operation processed approximately 550 deer and turned away 200 more from the home-based business.

In 1997 the market opened offering a wide selection of U.S.D.A. choice beef cuts from an old-fashioned meat counter, specialty smoked meats, carefully selected specialty food items, and chicken, pork, buffalo, elk, and venison items.

The year 2002 saw a 3,000 square foot expansion of the operation to increase meat processing capabilities and to open a full-service catering operation run by wife and co-owner, Melinda Merindorf.

Custom processing for area farmers is also performed as well as selling whole, sides, and quarters of beef and pork. Meat bundles for the freezer may be ordered as specified.
